There are two things in this world that tug at my heart-strings the hardest: 1) Seeing an animal hurt 2) Seeing an elderly person sad :'( So when I saw today’s topic for the Drawing Challenge was ‘Alone’, my mind immediately pictured an elderly person sitting by themselves – alone. Oh my, this makes me tear up just thinking about it!

When Clark and I first got married and moved to Los Angeles, I got a job at a retirement home. I quickly became friends with a lot of residents there. One very common daily occurrence was learning who was coming to visit. These men and women would doll themselves up and that’s all they could talk about all day long, was their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their life stories. I LOVED hearing them! I’d often get emotional when I’d see them get up extra early, and then wait by the front-door or sitting area, even if their visitors were not coming until later that day. These men and women could not wait to have visitors. I’d go home crying for them if they never showed up when I was done with work for the day and I’d see them still waiting, but now with a pained look… I’m crying right now just remembering those moments. :'( So for me, there is nothing more powerful to illustrate ‘alone’ than seeing an elderly widowed man/woman, waiting for someone to visit them…. oh my *sniff!* my heart hurts…
