Life has been so busy, full of goals and new challenges! Early 2018 I set a new years resolution to learn illustration, and by the end of the year, start my first book. I am very happy to say that I have started my first book and hope to have it published by this Spring. My book series is called Be Kind Books. Be Kind Books is a series of children’s books with a mission to inspire and teach love and kindness. My main character’s name is Little One.

No photo description available. The older I get, the more I see a greater need in this world of love; a love for differences and a reminder that we were never meant to all be the same. We each have our own story to tell, and journey to walk. We don’t always have to agree, we don’t all have to live the same way, believe the same, or look the same. We need to choose kindness and love first if we want to succeed in life. We were born to support each other – not tear each other down.

She represents the ideal of who we all can become. She’s my hero and who I aspire to be more like. All of my characters have a challenge they live with; mental illness, struggle with self-image, being bullied, seeking acceptance, and finding a family. Little One recognizes the emotions all of her friends go through and reaches out with love to comfort them and remind them that they are never alone, and they are loved – always – just as they are. Little One doesn’t know what challenges her friends are going through, only that sometimes they feel happy, sad, angry, guilty, shy, scared, or … silly

Little One leads a very simple, easy going life. She’s been taught from a young age to know that emotions are gifts. Each emotion was meant to teach us more about who we are, and how to help others. So when Little One sees a friend that is sad, she recognizes heartache and knows that that person needs to be reminded that they are safe. That reminder can be given in the form of a hug or simply sitting next to them to let them know that you care.

Little One never tries to fix others. She doesn’t know how to. What she does know is that she is everyone’s friend, and as a friend it is her duty to give others love – lots of love! No one should ever feel that they are alone, unwanted, or feel like they need to change in order to be loved and accepted.

Little One is everyone. She is in each of us. We can become more like her if we’re willing to see through her eyes and find the possibility of making a change for the better. For example, if we see someone sitting alone, we can sit across from them without needing to say anything. If we’re walking down the street and pass a stranger, we can smile without having to say a word. Sometimes small acts of kindness can change someones day from a sad one, to happy one simply because one person smiled at them and helped them to feel loved.

Little One is meant to be a teacher. A positive reminder of what we are each capable of doing, even if it means making small changes towards a more loving version of ourselves. I hope you come to love her as much as I do, because I aspire to be more like her every day that I am honored to draw her, and get to know her better with every story I write and pencil stroke I make

Am I Still Creating Visual Comfort – Portrait Paintings?

I am still working on commissions, my own personal realism sketches and paintings, and generic sketches and paintings to be sold in stores and online for greeting cards and ‘anytime’ gifts (i.e. Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Get Well, etc etc). My primary focus for this year will be on Be Kind Books to get it off the ground. I do love my realism work and will always work on that too. 🙂
