Expressionism Art : Feelings

My friend from England suggested that I step out of my comfort zone of realism & get messy w/ my art & loosen up. I’ve been so wrapped up in Illustration & Realism that I had no clue what to paint. I just put my brush to the canvas and came up with what might turn into a series of paintings expressing different emotional feelings. I think its good for any artist to take a step out of their norm and exercise their range of abilities. I thought these turned out pretty cool. Let me know what you think:

Aunt Beattie

A few days ago, my Aunt Beattie passed away. She has been suffering from various health conditions for the past several years – including cancer. Thankfully it wasn’t a shocking death, but sad nevertheless. On a positive note, she is no longer in pain – but free. We all have fond memories of her that we’ll cherish and hold on to in our minds and hearts.

I painted this for my Dad to take with him to the funeral. I just realized my recent blog posts have all been on a sad note. I’ll do my best to post something more uplifting than about someone who passed away, lol! BTW – is it just me or does it seem like a lot of people pass away in January & February?:

He’s Happy

This weekend is a difficult one emotionally. I’m trying not to fight the emotions that are at times overwhelming. One year ago tomorrow, my brother passed away. He was my hero, my one constant source of love & comfort growing up. I always felt protected by him – never threatened. We could talk about anything and he always understood. My thoughts, emotions & heart felt safe w/ him. We had a special connection…

We do now too, and I couldn’t ask for a better angel to help guide my spirit through this life. I just miss him terribly. My heart aches so much.

Lead By Example

For Christmas I painted my nephews & soon to be niece for my sister & brother in-law. These kids are so adorable. The oldest was just a chubby little baby when I first met Clark. It’s awesome to see him grow up, and lead the pack of his siblings. He’s a great example to them.

Catch You When You Fall

I do most of my paintings for others, in this case I decided to paint something for myself. I have been missing my brother a great deal this Holiday season. He passed away earlier this year in January. I’ve had a few people pass away in my life before, but no one as close to or as dear to me as he was.

In February, I placed his ashes in the Ocean at private beach tucked away in one of my favorite locations. He and I had a favorite picture of the two of us. The image came to mind of what I’d like to see / or imagine how he’d appear if he were to really be at that beach when I visit ‘him’ there. This is what I came up with:

Teaching Building Blocks

Boy, it has been awhile since I last posted any art! It’s been a busy busy Holiday season. I have some friends who had birthdays in their family within the past few months. Their son had his first birthday the other month and since I have no clue what to buy people, I give paintings usually instead. I figure it’s a fun and unique gift – everyone likes art right? So their other painting I did can be seen here. I wanted to provide a warm image of their baby with each of them so I did this one to match:
